Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Operator’s Course
Duration: Initial training 3.5 hours and refresher training 2 hours
Who should attend? (12 delegates maximum, 16yr old minimum age)
This short course is ideal for empowering staff with confidence and competence who may be required to respond to cardiac arrest situations where AED use is part of their first aid or medical role. Whilst prior basic first aid knowledge would be an advantage, it is certainly not essential. Delegates are required to be physically fit and have the ability to cope with study in English and practical activity.

- The Primary Survey
- Breathing and not breathing casualty scenarios
- The chain of survival
- Basic life support
- Protocols and procedures for use
- Heart Conditions
- Safety precautions when using an AED
- Practical cardiac arrest scenarios
- Knowledge and competence assessment
Assessment and certification
On successful completion of the course delegates will receive an
‘Automated External Defibrillation Operator’ certificate valid for 1 year
